Jeri passed in 1992 from gun shot wounds after she was caught in the cross fire of a gang fight while standing on a corner in California.

I knew Jeri as a very bubbly girl and on many occasions had spoken with her, in and out of school. I felt the entry about Jeri being killed in a "drive-by" needed some further clarification. I lived in LA in 92 and although I lived in a middle class neighborhood I had many run ins with gangs. I can count a dozen or more times when I nearly ended up like Jeri due to confrontation with gangs. To give you some idea of the severity of the gang situation at the time, I was wearing the wrong color and that was enoungh to be chased down by gang members with guns, another time it was just because I was white and stopped for gasoline in the wrong nieghborhood. These gang occurances did not just happen to me. A friend of mine had her daughter and a friend shot in a drive by at a restaurant around that same period. Ninety-two was just prior to the out break of the LA riots. I wrote this to put to rest any question whether Jeri may have been involved in something shady; it was not a prerequisite to have a run in with gangs in Los Angeles in the early nineties. I hope Jeri is in a better place.

I remember that Jeri always had a smile on her face. She was such a nice, easy going person. I saw her again at our 20 year reunion and she hadn't changed.
