I was totally stunned when I saw Steve's name in the "In Memory" section of our Class website. I had hoped that he was going to be at the reunion and that we would have been able to renew our friendship.

Steve, his wife Amy, my wife, Sandy, and I maintained a social relationship for several years in 2000-2005. I fondly think of the good times that we had going to Greek town for a meal after the theater, enjoying brunch a Donnelly's Wild West Restaurant in Union, IL, going to Dolphin Cove water park with our respective kids for water rides, swimming and picnics, etc. I especially like remembering our good times at Steve and Amy's house in Marengo, IL, just hanging out, talking, listening to music, after a great dinner!

Steve worked as a plant manager on the east side of Elgin, while my office was on the west side. Our schedules rarely let us get together for lunch. One of the last times that I saw Steve was at the Grand Victoria Casino buffet in Elgin, where we each were with our respective co-workers for lunch.

I'm not sure how or why we lost contact: the press of both "being busy" took its toll. This just serves as a constant reminder that we need to maintain our friendships, for we cannot count on "more time" to do it later.

God bless you Steve. You are missed.

Crazy story about Steve.... When I Steve and I were 16ish... Steve had his dad's valiant station wagon at an after game dance... Steve and I gave two girls a ride home from the dance. They lived in the boonies (by the Blanchard's sod farm if I remember right) and being dark we hit elevated railroad tracks going 40 or so and the car flew through the air and landed softly on the other side of the tracks. We thought that was pretty cool.

Steve and I went back to the after game dance and picked up some friends (If I remember right... Jay Skeen, Duane Heaton & Rick Rawlinson - forgive me if I left you out). Keep in mind this was before seat belts or air bags.... We did not tell our friends what we were going to do...... So Steve hit the tracks (I swear he was going 70 to 80 MPH) and we launched... Through the windshield all I could see was stars because the car was verticle in the air. By the grace of God the car landed right side up..... to the moaning and groaning of the gang. The car was totaled but still ran. Driving straight forward the tires squealed and the steering wheel violently vibrated. Steve drove us home and parked the car in the garage. When confronted by his dad the next morning he told him he had hit a pot hole. It was amazing we lived through that night...

God bless you Steve.... you wild man... Paul
