Donald Richard Neumann, 64, Minot, died Sunday, May 22, 2016, in a Minot hospital.

Donald was born March 18, 1952, in Elgin, Illinois to Henry and Della (Rackley) Neumann. He was raised and educated in Crystal Lake, IL, and graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School.

Donald enlisted into the United States Air Force on May 18, 1970, serving in the B-52 aircraft maintenance squadron until his honorable discharge on February 22, 1974. He continued to live in Illinois where he was employed in the manufacturing industry. He served a three-month stint with the Air National Guard and re-enlisted into the US Air Force on June 8, 1982, serving his country at Minot Air Force Base until retiring as a Master Sergeant on September 30, 1994. During this time he completed an Associate in Applied Science in Instructional Technology and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of the State of New York.

Donald was united in marriage to Janis Burger on June 12, 1971 at United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, IL.

Following his retirement from the US Air Force, Donald was employed at Thompson Signs in Minot until moving to Bottineau in 1999 and then to Dickinson in 2001, where he was employed at Sherwin-Williams for ten years. He returned to Minot, where he was employed at Sherwin-Williams and then Signs Today until retiring in September 2015.

Donald was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and building models. You could often find him working on home-improvement projects or creating special toys for his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox and Bears from his home state. Donald was well informed on politics often interjecting his opinion into many conversations with family and friends. He was a lover of music, a trait passed on to his son and granddaughter, who were inspired to play guitar following in his footsteps. Donald was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

Donald's surviving family includes his wife, Janis, Minot; children, Donald Scott (Brenna) Neumann, Minot and Brian (Sarah) Neumann, Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Brynn, Ava, Luke, Reed and Teddy Neumann; sisters, Rose (Craig) Mullen, Larwill, IN and Lynette Acosta, Portland, OR and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Zionce and sister, Ruby Irene 'Sue' Regan.

Funeral Service: Was Thursday, May 26, 2016 at in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:  North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
