Steven A. Winters

September 9, 1950 ~ March 8, 2022 (age 71)

Steven A. Winters passed away peacefully March 8, 2022.  He was born September 9, 1950 in Elgin to Clarence and Gertrude Winters.

Steve received the special gift of a heart transplant on July 22, 2003.  Steve always referred to this date as his real birthday because he was granted a new life on that date.  The family would like to give a special thank you to the incredible medical staff that provided over 18 years of incredible care, in particular the doctors, nurses and other medical staff at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.  As Steve always said “Loyola is the greatest”.  Each and every medical professional that participated in his care holds a special place in the families heart.

Steven is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria; children, Shane (Julie) Winters, and Jennifer (Kenneth) Berthiaume; grandchildren, Madelyn and Anna Gehring, and Chase, Chad, and Ava Berthiaume; brother, Terry (Barbara) Winters; sisters, Suzanne Key, Margo Schuldt, and Georgia (Jerrol) Simonsen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Yvonne Dittman, Patricia Nelson, Sandra Holtz, and Kathy Sunderlage.  Steven also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Roxy and Tinkerbell.

Visitation was at 10am until the funeral service at 1pm, Monday March 14 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake.  Burial followed in McHenry County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Pathway Ct, Crystal Lake, IL 60014

Our thoughts and prayers go out to our classmate, Steven and his family, during this sad time.
